Dr. Nizam Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury

Dr. Nizam graduated from Cumilla Medical College under Chittagong University. After completing MBBS, after having experience in some hospitals, he started training Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). Later he started training in Dhaka Medical College Hospital in Department of Medicine. He also received two years exclusive training in Department of Nephrology in same institution. He earned MD in Nephrology from Dhaka Medical College under Dhaka University.

After completing MD, he started working as Consultant Nephrologist in AFC Health Fortis Heart Institute Cumilla. Afterwards he joined in Universal Medical College and Hospital as Assistant Professor of Nephrology and worked there for more than a year. In 2020 he moved to SFMMKPJSH where he since been attending as Specialist Nephrologist in the Nephrology Department.

 He is a member of Bangladesh Renal Association.

Clinical interests:

Hypertension, volume regulation and cardiovascular function in CKD, in hemodialysis patients and in patients with combined heart and renal failure (‘cardiorenal syndrome’) form the main clinical interests of Dr.Nizam.

Department of Nephrology: overview

Nephrology concerns the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases, including electrolyte disturbances and hypertension, and the care of those requiring renal replacement therapy, including dialysis and renal transplant patients. Many diseases affecting the kidney are systemic disorders not limited to the organ itself, and may require special treatment. Patients are referred to nephrology specialists for various reasons, such as acute renal failure, chronic kidney disease, hematuria, proteinuria, kidney stones, hypertension, and disorders of acid/base or electrolytes.
